Skeptical & Spiritual: Red Flags to Watch Out For So You Don't End Up in a Cult with Rachel White, the Skeptical Shaman

Have you ever been in a class, workshop, or retreat - and had a moment of ohhh, there are some culty vibes going on here? How do you know if you've accidentally found your way into a cult?

Rachel White, aka the Skeptical Shaman, breaks down a couple of red flags to watch out for so your spiritual guides don't turn out to be cult leaders. While the spiritual landscape is full of bad behavior, there are sincere practitioners out there and much of spirituality is based in science.

Did you know that crystals are what power our computer’s processors, hence “Silicon Valley” (named for silica crystals used in hard drives)?

Or that flower essences and tinctures capture the terpenes of plants and flowers with measurable and science-based efficaciousness in our bodies?

Did you know that Shamanic Journeying meditation has been proven to grow the corpus callosum in the brain, increasing communication between brain hemispheres and improving memory retention and cognition?

Rachel White, the Skeptical Shaman, is known to be equally blunt and spiritually unique, breaking every preconceived notion of the traditional image of what it means to live a spiritual life. She’s an energy worker who’s been called the “Amy Schumer of shamanic practitioners.”

Rachel blends real-world pragmatism, her sense of humor, and ancient tools and techniques into her practice as a trained shaman, medium, energy practitioner, self-published author, and flower essence maker. She is, simply put, for the spiritually-curious but noncommittal who are looking for a more profound sense of meaning without feeling like they are joining a cult.

Rachel spent two decades in high-level corporate roles (the last of which was Head of Innovation for a global, publicly-traded corporate real estate firm), building TOTEM off the side of her desk while working full time. Because of this, TOTEM helps clients focus on tangible ROI and actionable insights through the lens of shamanism, Tarot, and spirituality.

Rachel recently published the TOTEM Tarot Deck on Amazon, a pure expression of her lifelong love of Tarot and spirituality.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How to leverage shamanic tools, technologies, and processes to drive real ROI in intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial business

  • Why it’s okay to be spiritual AND skeptical simultaneously

  • How intuition is a superpower that offers us better data than our rational mind alone can offer us

  • How “magic” is just technology we don’t fully understand yet

In the episode, we discuss:

  • Rachel’s transition from high-level corporate VP to energy practitioner

  • Why it’s important to create structure around your side hustle

  • Rachel’s path to shamanism?

  • Rachel’s first tarot deck and choosing a deck for you

  • Making sure that your spiritual teachers and gurus aren't actually cult leaders

  • Being called the “Amy Schumer of shamanic practitioners”

  • What it means when you pull a “bad” tarot card

  • How to use shamanic tools and technologies in our business and life

  • How shamanic practices support our quest for abundance
