Travel Diaries
A year after finishing my first book, I'm so excited (and a little nervous) to share that I'm underway with book number two (eeee!). I spent quite a bit of the year brainstorming (talking with my closest people on wine) about where two would take me...
what would it be about?
what story do I have to tell?
who's the girl that wants to read it?
And finally, with an open heart, I'm ready to tell you at least this much -- this little story will be a girl's guide to the best road trip of her life... (because I'm fairly certain that's what I'm living for).
It'll include the road trip necessities, routes for weekend travelers and those who are planning a bit more time on the road. There will be plenty of picnic baskets (the kind that'll chill champagne for late nights camp side), piles of woven blankets to keep cozy in the cool desert air, and all of the Polaroid snapshots along the way. Of course, it'll have music selections for long winding nights behind the wheel and a library of road trip reads for the bibliophiles like me.
As I've been preparing - and sharing my plan with my close friends - a few questions seem to come up again and again. So I'm sharing a few of those with you all here. I'd love to hear from you guys too... what's your favorite road trip memories, your essentials and all your favorite places to go?
Here's mine:

What is your favorite road trip memory?
I spent last summer in Spain. I was off on a day trip every weekend while living in a beautiful little seaside village. It was the most spectacular experience waking up overlooking the Mediterranean Sea everyday. The whole Summer was one long day dream. It's a reminder to me every day now how important these little travel diaries are.
What are your road trip essentials?
My headphones (I’m a music junkie, always searching for new playlists and albums), a portable vinyl player with a few new favorites records - Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes... and while I'm slightly biased... Grace Potter - all favorites on constant rotation.
I always pack a variety of sunnies and aromas. I love essential oils and natural scents, which are perfect for layering and can totally change your mood.
What's on the destination list for the fall?
I'd love to take a month or so and pile friends in the car and kick it out west. I spent a week on the West Coast this month - a few days in the Hollywood Hills, a day in Venice Beach, and a day in Wine Country - I'm dying to go back. I'd head up the PCH first with an extra suitcase in the car and spend a day shopping for vintage finds at the Rose Bowl Flea. From there I'd drive out to Joshua Tree and sleep under the stars.
Describe your perfect Saturday on the road.
A day by the water with friends, whether it’s a beach or an afternoon at the pool, I am a sun and sea lover. It’s even better followed by a leisurely afternoon cooking and catching up with no schedule or agenda.
What are your favorite fall pieces for traveling?
Upcycled denim:
I'm obsessed with upcycled denim overalls. I'm currently loving everything from New Orleans brand Holt McCall, and the hand embroidered pizza emblems are so cute.
Florals:
I love an artful approach to florals for any season. Realist depictions and those of the hand stitched and painted variety.
Hippie day dresses in a mini version:
I love the chic modern versions inspired by Talitha Getty's luxe approach to boho.
So with that I promise many more travel diaries to come!
