Demystifying Fertility: My Miscarriage Story, Assisted Reproductive Technology Including IUI, IVF, and Egg Freezing with Dr. Anu Kathiresan of Kindbody

If you’ve had questions about fertility — specifically why miscarriages happen, the process of IUI or IVF, or what it’s like to have your eggs frozen — this episode is for you.

At the end of last year, my husband and I decided we wanted to expand our family. It’s an awareness and a decision that came to me a bit later in my life journey. I’m in my 40’s and hadn't necessarily felt called to have children in my twenties and thirties. For most of my adult life, I’d prioritized my career and subconsciously thought it simply might not be possible for me to grow my business and a family simultaneously.

During our year at home, however, Ben and I started having conversations about the possibility of having a baby. I visited a fertility doctor for the first time in 2020 to have my ovarian reserve checked. I was happy to learn that, at that time, my AMH levels looked good for my age and that while we needed to decide about our next steps soon, the door was still open.

When we finally started trying to get pregnant, we were able to do so quickly. Getting pregnant was such a joyous moment, as we honestly weren’t sure if it would happen or how long it might take.

At seven weeks, however, we had a miscarriage. In this episode, I share that experience and the steps I took that led to my relationship with Kindbody, a fertility clinic committed to inclusion and accessibility. My guest today is my Kindbody fertility doctor, Dr. Anu Kathiresan, board certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Obstetrics & Gynecology. She is currently welcoming patients at Kindbody in Los Angeles.
