Money Mindset: 9 Abundance Mindset Journal Prompts

In our complex and interconnected world, money plays a significant role in our lives. It influences our choices, shapes our opportunities, and impacts our overall well-being. Yet, despite its importance, many people struggle with their finances, facing financial stress, limited resources, and a scarcity mindset.

Developing a healthy money mindset is the key to transforming your financial situation. By shifting your beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors around money, you can unlock a path to financial success and abundance.

This blog post will explore the foundations of a positive money mindset and provide practical strategies to help you cultivate it.

Understanding The Money Mindset

A money mindset refers to our attitudes, beliefs, and thoughts about money and abundance. It encompasses how we perceive wealth, our self-worth about finances, and the limitations or possibilities we associate with money.

We must recognize that our money mindset is not fixed but can be consciously shaped and transformed to support our financial goals.

When I first read Soul of Money, I wondered why we don't dream bigger or go for those big, lofty goals.

There are a few reasons I think we don't share our creative gifts, listen to our intuition, launch that podcast, offer up our healing services, write that book or take that class… and it all starts with scarcity. It stems from the idea that we don't have enough of something, or - there isn't enough to go around.

“For many of us, our first waking thought of the day is "I didn’t get enough sleep." The next one is "I don't have enough time." Whether true or not, that thought of not enough occurs to us automatically before we even think to question or examine it.

We spend most of the hours and the days of our lives hearing, explaining, complaining, or worrying about what we don't have enough of...

Before we even sit up in bed, before our feet touch the floor, we're already inadequate, already behind, already losing, already lacking something. And by the time we go to bed at night, our minds are racing with a litany of what we didn't get, or didn't get done, that day.

We go to sleep burdened by those thoughts and wake up to that reverie of lack... This internal condition of scarcity, this mind-set of scarcity, lives at the very heart of our jealousies, our greed, our prejudice, and our arguments with life.”

Identifying Limiting Beliefs

Childhood learning and experiences determine our mindset about money. This is not conscious. Everything we absorb from our family, media, peer modeling, education system and more are embedded in our subconscious and inform how we view money today.

Because of the scarcity mindset, sometimes, we hold ourselves back. We are afraid to charge our worth, not increase our rates, and believe our products and services are worthless or that our industry is "cheap." Money is Energy.

When considering your most authentic self, achieving your highest aspirations, and reaching your financial goals, it's essential to understand what you genuinely want with yourself and the universe. Here are a few things we sometimes tell ourselves:

"I can't do _______ because I don't have enough followers."

Yah know what: Numbers on the internet don't equal sparking change or invoking inspiration in others. When you start showing up for yourself, others will pay attention. I don't care if you have 10,000 or 10 followers; if you're stepping up for yourself and the things you care about, others will fall in line behind you.

I often get asked how I built my IG following. When I started back in 2012, the reason people showed up was because they cared about the same things I care about.

And while I've upped my photo skills and do a better job at organizing how I'm going to post, the first 1000 people showed up (and the next 1000, and the next 1000 after that) because I showed up for myself, showed up with heart and attracted people that care about the same things. We can all do that.

"Who am I to ________. Do I really have what it takes?"

This world needs more people to embrace their gifts and take significant risks. I personally experienced this one when I started writing my book Wonderful. I thought: who am I to travel the country and write a book about it? I kept thinking: surely someone else is doing the same thing, and it'll be better than what I do.

But guess what - I haven't met a single person that's exactly like me, doing exactly what I do, that sees things exactly like me. I guarantee you there's no one exactly like you. Do you know how many people have messaged me sharing stories about how Wonderful created life-changing moments for them?

What if I hadn't gone for it!? If you're thinking, "Who am I to _______" I'm here to tell you: you are you, and only YOU can do your thing!

Cultivating Abundance

Adopting an abundance mindset is crucial for attracting wealth and opportunities. Rather than viewing money as scarce and limited, an abundance mentality acknowledges that abundant resources and possibilities are available to us.

This shift in perspective allows us to focus on growth, abundance, and gratitude for what we already have while embracing a proactive approach toward financial success. What do you need to feel abundant? Really consider it. Society has taught us:

  • It's selfish to want a lot for yourself.

  • If you express a need, then you are "needy."

  • To truly deserve what you desire, you must prove you are worthy.

The desire for abundance is right. Sometimes, it can go unchecked and lead to harm. When we understand our needs and what it means to acknowledge them, we avoid trying to fill that void with excess stuff we don't really want or need.

Abundance is when you have more than enough. And you can never get enough of what you don't need. Satisfaction arrives when we fulfill our desires. Dissatisfaction lingers when we try to find more "acceptable" alternatives.

Remember that you're here to experience the full depth of the human experience. Pleasure is a part of that.

9 Abundance Mindset Journal Prompts

This guide is a tool for self-discovery. Money is a sensitive subject for many, filled with shame and fear. Each journal prompt draws out aspects of your subconscious feelings towards abundance—your limiting beliefs surrounding your earning potential, budgeting, and investing.

I created this workbook: Money Mindset: 9 Journal Prompts to Build Abundance, from material straight out of my Conscious Creatives Business School and retreat curriculum. As you move through each journal prompt, avoid criticism or judgment.

Instead, let it all out onto the page. Stay in the flow, and write instinctually without self-editing or overthinking. Journaling this way will naturally reveal the honest roots of your money mindset. Ensure you've given yourself at least 30 minutes to work through these questions.

Before you begin, get cozy, light a candle, and set a timer for 3 minutes to sit in meditation. Handwrite your responses to each of the journal prompts on the following pages.

The Takeaway

Developing a powerful money mindset is a transformative journey that requires intention, self-awareness, and consistent effort.

By consciously examining our beliefs, embracing abundance, setting clear goals, and continually expanding our financial knowledge, we can overcome financial limitations and unlock our true potential.

Remember, your mindset shapes your reality, so choose thoughts that empower you to create the financial abundance and freedom you desire.

"Believe that you are worthy of financial freedom. Do something you love and then all you ever have to do is be yourself to succeed. If you sell something you love, then you just sell love, not a specific product or service, and that will show."
