Sound Healing: How to Use Solfeggio Healing Frequencies

There is a vibration frequency that corresponds to everything in the universe. Love, happiness, joy, envy, and regret, for example, are vibratory frequencies. Since ancient times, music and mantra have been recognized for their healing ability. But what are healing frequencies, and how can sound healing help you? Read on to find out.

What is sound healing?

Much of the technology of our modern world disrupts the natural earth frequencies. In yogic technologies, Sahej Shabd  - a sound therapy, meaning "the ease of harmonic sound" - inspires a practice of using tones and melodies to align with our intuitive consciousness.

In his famous book De Anima, Aristotle described the flute as an instrument that could evoke an emotional response and purify the soul. Greek physicians used flutes and lyres to heal patients, connecting to the power of vibrational frequencies to aid digestion, treat mental disturbance, and promote sleep.

Native Americans and Indigenous communities work with song, chanting, and drums as a community wellness modality and healing rite.

Today's sound healing can include gong meditation, mantra, chanting in a yoga class or ceremonial ritual, listening to binaural beats, experiencing tuning forks, or a sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls.

What are The Benefits of Benefits Healing Frequencies

Different frequencies of sound have different effects on human brain activity.

Our brains naturally sync to specific tone scales, like the ancient Gregorian Chants - the "solfeggio frequencies."

The main solfeggio frequencies are: 174 Hz, 285 Hz, 396 Hz, 417 Hz, 432 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz, 852 Hz, and 963 Hz.

Singing these ancient chants or listening to these frequencies ranging from 174 Hz to 963 Hz are known to have all sorts of wellness benefits, from evoking feelings of love and courage, dissolving feelings of trauma, and encouraging clear communication.

Sound of Healing

What are the 9 solfeggio Frequencies?

174 Hz

174 Hz is the lowest recognized solfeggio frequency. It has the greatest impact on health by relieving stress, inflammation, pain, and tension. Studies show that listening to this sound frequency causes faster recovery and a positive mental state. In addition, the 174 solfeggio frequency relaxes muscles, and many study participants report finding pain relief from back aches, knee injuries, and more.

285 Hz & 396 Hz

These frequencies are linked to unblocking the root chakra, the energy center at the base of the spine. Listening to these can be energizing and relieve negative energy like anxiety. These frequencies can keep you stable and grounded. Tune in to boost your confidence and remove barriers to success, happiness, and inner peace.

417 Hz

Clear negativity and undo negative situations with the solfeggio frequency of 417 Hz. Some benefits include building inner strength, calming, and creating change. If you have past trauma, try listening to 417 tones to release old memories that might keep your subconscious blocked. In addition, studies show that this frequency slows the heart rate, making it perfect for better sleep, deep relaxation, and meditation.

528 Hz

Solfeggio frequency 528 Hz is the miracle frequency associated with the solar plexus chakra. This frequency causes powerful healing and is associated with transformation. In ancient cultures, it was even used to manifest miracles. 528 Hz is the same frequency found in oxygen, rainbows, grass, the buzzing of bees, and the song Imagine by John Lennon. This frequency is well-studied for its many benefits. In 1988, Dr. Glen Rein proved that playing Gregorian and Sanskrit chants in this tone repaired DNA. A study from Japan found that five minutes of listening to this frequency reduces endocrine and autonomic nervous system stress. Another study found a reduction in tension and anxiety as well.

639 Hz

This frequency is associated with love, improved relationships, and new connections. 639 Hz solfeggio frequency is related to the heart chakra, the connector, and the unifier of the chakras. Meditating with this sound could result in better communication, empathy, compassion, and harmony.

741 Hz

This frequency is linked to the throat chakra and helps with self-expression. The throat chakra is linked to our ability to communicate and speak the truth. When blocked or unbalanced, we may be easily manipulated or tell lies to others and ourselves. We may also feel hesitant about expressing our emotions and opinions. By listening to this tone, we experience weighted clarity and confidence.

852 Hz & 963 Hz

These frequencies are known to restore feelings of unity with the Universe and promote spiritual awakening. They are associated with opening your Third Eye chakra and awakening your crown chakra. Listening to these frequencies can help awaken your intuition and connect to your higher self.

Healing and its Sounds

How to Use Solfeggio Healing Frequencies

As I sit and write, I alternate between playing kundalini mantras for creativity and chakra healing frequencies to improve my focus and motivation.

As a form of meditation, sound baths are a beautiful way to drop deeply into meditative serenity. Our brains naturally begin to synchronize with the rhythm of the music in these practices, so as the calming rhythms begin, our mind moves into a slower wave state.

Some of the most common sound bath instruments include:

  • Chimes

  • Gongs

  • Tuning forks

  • Singing bowls

  • Harps

  • Windchimes

  • Pan flutes

  • Didgeridoo

  • Djembe

  • Rainstick

  • Drums

  • Tongue drums

Whether in a yoga studio experiencing quartz crystal singing bowls or listening to the gong while I sleep, I find the vibrations moving me into a relaxed, restful, and even trance-like state in which the worries of the day float away.

There's a natural energy cleansing that happens through sound.

I started listening to a couple of specific gong frequencies while sleeping years ago. Created by the Grammy-award-winning musical group White Sun, the two songs I love are called "Healing Gong" and "Wish-Fulfilling Gong."

I also love chanting mantras in my daily meditation practices. Mantra is the practice of working with sound to affect consciousness; man means mind, tra means liberation or creative freedom, and trang means wave or projection.

I once heard a yoga master say that when she began chanting mantras, all of the swirling thoughts in her mind instantly disappeared. I loved that idea and encourage you to try it. First, pick a mantra and work with that mantra for a minute to begin.

Then, build up to 3 minutes as a part of your regular practice, and even 10 minutes or more as you have time.

When we chant a mantra, we invoke the resonance and power within the syllables. So whether it's for abundance, peace of mind, or increasing intuition, we set vibrations into motion when we chant.
