What is EFT Tapping Therapy?
EFT Tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Technique, is a form of holistic therapy that combines traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, and acupressure principles to promote healing and well-being.
It involves tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on negative emotions, thoughts, or physical symptoms to release them and restore balance to the body's energy system.
What is Tapping?
Psychological acupressure, also called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), was introduced by Gary Craig. He believed blocked or disrupted energy was the root cause of all negative emotions we experience.
For example, early in my career, I traveled weekly, in and out of airports, surrounded by energy and emotions. As an empath, I found I was taking on other people's energy, and in turn, my anxieties were amplified. I was introduced to EFT by my therapist.
I'd shared with her that the emotional energy I was picking up and my feelings of being out of control while flying resulted in what was becoming a pretty intense fear of flying. I learned the basics of an EFT practice in her office and then began applying what I'd learned every time I traveled to the airport.
The results were so remarkable I immediately felt the fear leave my body the next time I had a flight. EFT Tapping is based on disciplines such as tai chi and acupuncture; tapping focuses on the body's meridian points to restore the natural rhythm and balance of our energy.
To use this technique, you can begin by following the instructions of online mentors who share the sequence and tips of EFT. To go even further, you can also seek a professional practitioner.
How Does EFT Tapping Work?
The basic idea behind EFT Tapping is that negative emotions and physical symptoms are caused by disruptions or blockages in the body's energy system. Tapping on specific meridian points can stimulate energy flow and release these blockages, relieving emotional and physical distress.
a typical EFT sequence:
Statement: You start the sequence by stating out loud what you think is troubling you and how negatively you feel about it on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 being relaxed and unhinged, and 10 being totally scared and anxious).
Set-up: You want to create a phrase explaining your goal. This sentence must focus on acknowledging the issue and accepting yourself despite the problem. I repeatedly heard a typical set-up phrase: "Even though I am / I have…, I deeply and completely accept/love myself".
With two fingers, start gently tapping on the ends of nine meridian points (between your eyebrow, side of the eye, under the nose, chin, collarbone, and under the arm). As you tap, repeat your set-up phrase repeatedly and focus on your desired outcome.
At the end of the sequence, rate your level of anxiety again on a scale of 0 to 10. Keep repeating this sequence until your anxiety level reaches 0.
What Does EFT Tapping Treat?
EFT Tapping therapy can treat various issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, addiction, phobias, and more. It is a safe and non-invasive therapy that can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments.
The Bottom Line
In conclusion, EFT Tapping Therapy is a powerful and effective form of holistic therapy that combines traditional Chinese medicine, psychology, and acupressure principles to promote healing and well-being.
By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on negative emotions or physical symptoms, we can release blockages in the body's energy system and restore balance to promote healing and well-being.
