The Astrology of New Year's Eve

New Years Eve, a night cast aside by the jaded and cherished by romantics. A nervous energy buzzes about, as the hours of the night progress and we prepare ourselves to welcome in a brand new year. Eventually, the long awaited countdown arrives by way an excited, drunken chant. 3, 2, 1- Happy New Year! The kiss-less blow little paper horns and toss enticing eyes to strangers. The couples in the room smile, encouraging one another of their duration for the coming year. We all enter into uncharted territory, whether we’re ready or not, unsure of just what will happen next..

Zodiac Mack for Oui We

The astrology of NYE is a positive one to report, in my opinion. The moon will be inching ever closer to fullness through out the night, but will not reach its peak until Jan 1, approximately 9:30 PM EST. We’re graced with a rather social moon for NYE, as the moon transits through the last degrees of Gemini for the remainder of the evening. Gemini Moons generally make us more chatty, excited, and sociable. It’s a good night to grab your friend group and hit the town. The Gemini Moon makes only one aspect through out the night, a sextile to Uranus in Aries. Sextiles are harmonious aspects and they offer us opportunities. The opportunities offered by a sextile are those that must be reached out and taken though by ones own initiative, they are not simply handed out. This sextile between the Moon and Uranus gives us an opportunity to do something exciting and out of our normal comfort zone. If something unusual, perhaps a person or a party, seems appealing to you tonight, go for it! (side note: please, always consult your common sense and intuition. I’m not saying do a mountain of cocaine and hop aboard a strangers yacht..unless that’s how you roll!)

With 4 planets currently moving through serious and hardworking Capricorn, we’ve been paying more attention to our long term goals. We’ve been learning more about commitment- to ourselves, our partners, or our soul’s work. Tonight is a good time to unwind and socialize, letting whatever stress this new energy has brought in reside a bit. The gemini moon will ask us to be animated and to chat up a storm with our pals- perhaps about the goals and resolutions we want to take into the new year. Last thing to be mindful of- Mars and Jupiter are currently forming a close conjunction in Scorpio. This is an energetic and intense pairing. Mars represents energy, self-assertion, war, and libido. Jupiter represents expansion, abundance, and growth. “Beating a dead horse” comes to mind for me with a Mars/Jupiter aspect. We need to mind our tempers, for they can grow a little out of hand, as well as our sexual energy which becomes a bit more ferocious. Beware of over-doing, especially with substances, because Mars and Jupiter are conjunct in Scorpio- a sign which represses and pushes things down. The tendency to intoxicate/poison oneself is likely to be stronger than taking physical action or speaking out against another. Have yourself a safe and lovely NYE! Get out and socialize, take up the opportunity to try something new, and mind the booze intake!
