When The Stars Align: Astrology for Entrepreneurs
The saying “the stars aligned” is actually a bit of a misnomer. The stars do move — with the passage of a few millennia, there is a crossing of stellar paths, but the movement is so slow that it’s not something we can measure in one human lifetime.
Scientifically speaking, the “stars” in the saying are actually “planets.”
The phrase refers to the idea that when certain planets line up in certain positions in the sky, and those planets are considered against their placement at the time you were born — at that moment, “stars align,” and amazing, unexpected, and nearly impossible things can happen.
Your planetary alignments can be incredible indicators for foretelling the best times to transition in your career, launch a new product or service in your business, hire new team members, begin a marketing campaign, upgrade your technology, and when to sign a lease on a new storefront.
Here’s the cool thing: through astrology, and our scientific knowledge from the study of astronomy, we know exactly when the planets will align. These fated moments don’t have to be unexpected at all. When you are aligned with your chart, and the natural cycles of the universe, you can’t help but notice a feeling of synchronicity.
Planetary Alignments
Astrology amps up the inner work of learning about and healing yourself —it acts as a guide and helps to explain the experiences happening within you, as a dynamic evolving creature. When you have an understanding of your chart, you have the ability to use the cosmic cycles so that your life and business are aligned for stellar success.
You’ll recognize the patterns that can hold you back in business and those that will allow you to thrive.
We Are a Go For Launch!
Choosing a launch date for a business, product or service can be a make or break, and it’s something astrological-minded entrepreneurs consider.
How do you know when it’s a go for launch?! First, check Mercury.
Mercury Retrograde vs. Mercury Direct
You’ve likely heard of the evil Mercury retrograde. In Greek mythology, Mercury was the winged messenger god and in Roman times, he was a trickster. The planet is the ruler of communication.
When Mercury goes retrograde we hear more about communications going haywire. Crashed computers, flight delays, drama at the office — Mercury gets a really bad wrap when it goes retrograde.
So, rather than considering a big launch during a retrograde, take the retrograde time to reassess communication strategies, review the technologies involved, and increase productivity and efficiencies. As Mercury initiates the retrograde dance, check back in with yourself and your ideas.
Review your original vision, reflect on the intended outcome, and visualize the success you’re intending to achieve. When Mercury sashays direct, well, now it’s going for launch.
In addition to timing your launch outside of a retrograde, it’s worthwhile to consider the New Moon.
The New Moon and Entrepreneurship
The New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle, which lasts about 29 days: it’s the start of the new cosmic month.
A New Moon is the perfect time for new beginnings - it’s a time in which the sky goes dark, literally! On this one night each month we can’t see the moon from earth — it’s the darkest night of the month.
In your personal life, it’s also a good time to consider working on your shadow. If you took some psych classes in college or listen to wellness podcasts perhaps you recall this: in Jungian psychology, the "shadow” refers to the unconscious aspects of our personality.
The Shadow Side
More simply stated: the shadow is our “dark side” and it’s the side of you that lights up during a New Moon. It’s the emotions and behaviors that we likely wish or sometimes deny that we have. It’s things like: jealousy, perhaps of the success of a colleague or co-worker, selfishness and not wanting to be a team player, or greed both in your work and personal life — it’s ‘bad’ behaviors like telling white lies like calling in sick when you really just want to stay in bed and binge Real Housewives.
If you’ve ever tried to start something new, whether it be a new product launch or a new relationship, if you’re in the throes of these shadow-y feelings and behaviors the new thing is likely dead in the water.
The biggest moments of awareness and transformation, and in turn, the biggest success arises, when we’ve done the work to own our shit. It doesn’t matter how much gratitude you’re expressing, how many mantras you’re saying, or visualizations you’re practicing - and trust me, I’ve been in your shoes - you are making your life a million times harder if you’re not owning your shit.
If you’ve been putting off processing through shadow-y feelings or behaviors the New Moon is the time to get to work.
New Moon Ritual for A New Launch
Here’s a New Moon Ritual to prepare you to launch something new and to own your shit at the same time:
Start by writing a New Moon manifestation list.
This is as simple as it sounds. No need to get fancy, just pull out a sheet of paper and hand write what you want to happen with the launch, or with that new relationship, or whatever it might be.
State it with intention. Be crystal clear, include exact elements and write the list as if the launch has already happened.
This practice is like sending an email to the universe.
As you write, consider your shadow and let go of any ego attached to what you’re manifesting. For example: If you are manifesting the launch of your new swimwear brand and you want to shoot the first lookbook in Bali because you want to get insta photos to keep up with the Kardashian / Jenner swimwear brand of the moment — that’s ego.
However, if you're manifesting the new swimwear line and the photoshoot in Bali because you feel genuinely called there and you want to experience the energetic vortex on the island, and you believe it will illustrate the story of your brand with love, that's following your heart.
At the close of your list writing creating a New Moon Mantra. Here’s a few I love:
- I am intuitive and visionary and see beautiful things coming into my life.
- I am filled with creative expression and brilliance.
- I live an abundant life: rich with love, friends, money and compassion.
Now for the duration of the lunar cycle revisit the list and read it out loud each evening before you go to bed. The idea is to magnify your dreams and wishes — and to remind the universe every single night of what you’re calling in.
Plus, these big dreams will likely be the first thing on your mind in the morning, making you especially focused and productive the next morning.
Conversations about birth charts, planetary transits, crystals and meditation - once the domain of the woo-woo, have become as normal as conversations about workplace wellness and professional development seminars.
As you’re growing your business, lean all the way in. Check your career houses on your birth chart, meditate before big presentations, breath into your creativity, and align your energetics to that of the moon.
